Converting Multiple NMEA 0183 Talkers to NMEA 2000

← Back

Due to limitations in the RS422 electrical layer used by NMEA 0183, it is not possible to connect the output of more than one Talker to the input of a Listener. To convert data from more than one NMEA 0183 Talker to NMEA 2000 you have three choices:

Combination & Conversion

Use an NMEA 0183 multiplexer like the Actisense PRO-NDC-1E to intelligently combine the output of the multiple Talkers. Then use an NGX-1 to convert the output from the PRO-NDC-1E to NMEA 2000.

Suggested retail price (SRP) for this solution:

1x PRO-NDC-1E = £368.90*

1x NGX-1 = £179.72*

Total = £548.62*

Simply convert

Use a dedicated NGX-1 for each NMEA 0183 Talker.

SRP for this solution:

2x NGX-1 = £359.44*

3x NGX-1 = £539.16*

4x NGX-1 = £718.88*

All-in-one Combination, Conversion & NMEA 2000 Output

Use the PRO-NDC-1E2K to intelligently combine multiple NMEA 0183 Talkers and convert directly to NMEA 2000 in a single device — no additional converter required.

SRP for this solution:

1x PRO-NDC-1E2K = £442.46*

Recommended

The PRO-NDC-1E2K offers the simplest and most cost-effective single-device solution, combining and converting multiple NMEA 0183 sources directly to NMEA 2000 without the need for a separate converter. For installations with four or more Talkers, using individual NGX-1 converters may be considered, though the PRO-NDC-1E2K remains the recommended approach for most applications given its simplicity and reduced potential for data errors.
