What is the difference between Transfer mode and Convert mode?

← Back

The NGX-1 has two operating modes:

  • Convert mode (default): Converts between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. Serial output is NMEA 0183 sentences at 4800 baud by default. This mode is used when you want standard NMEA 0183 output from your N2K network.
  • Transfer mode: Passes raw NMEA 2000 binary data over the USB/serial connection. Required for software that needs to see the full NMEA 2000 data stream (e.g. TimeZero, OpenCPN, Actisense NMEA Reader, logging applications).
