Connecting multiple NMEA0183 Listeners to NGW-1
NMEA 0183 Output
It is perfectly acceptable to connect up to eight devices to the NGX-1 NMEA 0183 output provided that they are all individually electrically isolated, depending on the electrical demands from each device. However, please check with your device manufacturers that you do not have more than one device that does not have an electrically isolated input.
The NGX-1 is very robust and provides electrical isolation on it’s input and output to prevent ground loops causing damage. But we cannot prevent a ground loop from occurring when two non isolated Listeners are joined together at the same output. The best way to avoid ground loop damage if you are not sure about the electrical isolation on your devices is by using an PRO-NBF-1 or a PRO-BUF-2.
NMEA 0183 Input
Due to the nature of NMEA 0183, it is not possible to connect more than one NMEA 0183 device that transmits data (known as a Talker) to the same input of any receiving device (known as a Listener).
