About this kit

Kit 4a is the smart choice for anyone who wants not just a solid NMEA 2000 foundation, but also built-in diagnostic capability from day one.

The key upgrade over Kit 1a and Kit 2a is the inclusion of Smart Universal Terminators (A2K-TER-U) in place of standard terminators. These intelligent components monitor network voltage and provide a clear LED indication of power status — one of the most common sources of NMEA 2000 problems. Being able to see at a glance whether both ends of the network are correctly powered saves significant time when troubleshooting.

The 4-metre backbone cable suits a wide range of installation sizes, from compact helm stations to mid-sized vessels, offering more flexibility than the 2m kit without requiring the full reach of the 6m kit.

All connectors use metal bodies with nickel-plated brass contact pins — the same specification applied across the entire Actisense cable and connector range. This matters because network infrastructure is typically the hardest part of a system to access or replace once an installation is complete. Choosing well-built components from the start means fewer problems, less rework, and a network that keeps running reliably in the background regardless of the conditions it faces.

This kit is ideal for:

  • Anyone who wants network diagnostic capability built in from the start
  • Installers and boat builders wanting professional-grade infrastructure
  • Vessels where future troubleshooting access to cabling may be difficult
  • Mid-sized installations needing a 4-metre backbone run
