I have accidentally applied 12VDC to the NMEA0183 listen port. Will that destroy the device or is there some kind of overvoltage protection in the device ?
The NGW is designed to be capable of withstanding this, in the scenario that someone mistakes the red and black for power.
Input Voltage Tolerance: -15V to +15V continuous -35V to +35V short term (< 1 second) Input Protection: Current limited and overdrive protection to 40VDC If we can help further, please just raise a ticket here: Actisense Support
That was what I expected. Thanks !
Then there is only the configuration of the device left as a possible error. I am trying to connect a Furuno FA-50 AIS through the NGW-1 and I read somewhere that the device needs to be setup specifically for AIS. Is that correct ? The Furuno FA-50 has a standard baud rate of 38.4 Kbps, so that should be fine, but what else to I need to setup ?
Hi there!
That’s correct. If you purchased an NGW-1-ISO rather than an NGW-1-AIS, then it will be defaulted to the standard conversions at 4800 baud rate.
The NGW-1 can be reconfigured in Actisense Toolkit. There is a default config available that will change the device to 38400 baud, and enable AIS conversions.
Details on connecting the NGW-1 to a PC can be found in the user manual, and instructions on configuring the NGW-1 can be found here;
Thanks!
Josh
I am searching for information on how to connect the USB cable to the device for re-configuring it. But I cannot find any information on pinout so I can connect the USB cable correctly ?! I have checked the manual on the unit but can only find info on the RS232 interface ?! Can you help me with pinout/connection diagram so I can re-configure my device ?
Hi there,
As we can’t insert diagrams etc into these threads in our replies, could you raise a ticket here; https://actisense.zohodesk.eu/portal/en/newticket
We will be happy to assist you further through our support desk 🙂
Thanks
